INFO for Mentors

 Frequently asked questions......

Mentor Training:  What are the training requirements for an EfM mentor?

Anyone wishing to become a mentor must complete the EfM Mentor training and be accredited before starting an EfM group. Each accredited mentor must also attend a training event every 12 to 18 months. The Programs Center of the School of Theology at Sewanee offers different levels of training for mentors with various amounts of experience.  Training is available at Sewanee and in many locations around the country.  The Diocese of Virginia recently sponsored an EfM Mentor Training Event at Roslyn Conference Center in Richmond.  A current national training schedule is published on the Sewanee website under the "Training Info" link on the EfM Homepage.

All mentors must complete two Basic/In-service training events and be accredited before registering for a Formation training event.  Formation trainees must be active mentors who have led groups within the last 12-18 months.  If your last three trainings were either formation or alternate trainings, you must register for a Basic/In-service training as your next re-accreditation training.

For information concerning the July 29-31, 2012 EfM Mentor Training event at Roslyn Conference Center, please click on 2012 Mentor Training under the Events tab.  You will find details for registering for one of the four Basic/In-service events or one of two brand new Formation events: Communicating with Peace and Purpose Under Pressure and Mind, Body & Spirit.  Click on the link here for a Registration Information Form.  The deadline for sending in your completed Registration Information Form and non-refundable deposit is June 29, 2012 with the balance of your registration fee due no later than July 13, 2012.

Mentor's Manual:  Where can I get a copy of the Mentor's Manual?

If you do not have a Mentor's Manual, the entire manual is available on the Sewanee website under the "Mentoring Info" link on the EfM Homepage.

Student Mentors:  Can I be a student and a mentor at the same time?

You can be a mentor and a student at the same time as long as you have a co-mentor (who can also be a student).  You cannot be the sole mentor of the group and also be a student.  The reason for this rule is that Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are granted to students for successful completion of a year of EfM and you cannot certify yourself eligible for CEUs.  Even if you do not want/need CEUs, it is the policy of the School of Theology and no exceptions are permitted.

Group Info:  How can I get my EfM group info on the website?

Send your group information to Wendy Gayle, EfM Coordinator, Diocese of VA including the location, meeting day and time, and contact information.  You may also fill in the Group Information Form and send it or mail it to the address on the form.
