HOW does EfM work?

The EfM Community

One of the greatest assets of EfM is the development of a trusted community.  Each EfM seminar group is composed of six to twelve students guided by a trained mentor and perhaps a co-mentor.  A group usually meets once a week during a nine-month cycle to worship together, to discuss course materials they have read, and to explore their lives, culture, tradition, and beliefs through a process called theological reflection.  Students follow a lesson and study guide which are to be read each week.  There are no tests or papers to write because as adults, we are responsible for our own learning.

The EfM Curriculum

The EfM program is a four-year curriculum:  Year One - Old Testament; Year Two - New Testament; Year Three - Church History; and Year Four - Theological Choices.  Students enroll for one year at a time, beginning with Year One.  Participants in the same group may all be studying the same year or be studying different years.  For more on the content of the curriculum, go to Sample Lessons.

EfM Online

For those unable to join a local seminar group, EfM is now available online.  For more information about EfM Online, go to EfM ONLINE.
